Most of us associate health with personal choices, such as what food to eat or how much exercise to engage in. But the health of our community actually plays a big part in how healthy we are individually.
Planning and public health are interrelated in many ways. Healthy communities look to many components that determine good health, such as active transportation, cultural and recreational opportunities, decent and affordable housing, quality education, availability of public health programs and services, access to healthy food, and more.
McLean County Regional Planning Commission partners with OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, McLean County Health Department, and McLean County Wellness Coalition to promote community health in land use and policy decisions. These partnerships also play an important role in developing local and regional comprehensive plans as well as hosting community programming like the Good To Go Commuter Challenge and PARK(ing) Day.
