The DRAFT Go:Safe McLean County Action Plan Update 2025 public review period is now over. The public comments received were considered for final edits before having the plan adopted.

The McLean County Regional Planning Commission (MCRPC) is excited
to launch the Go:Safe McLean County Action Plan Update initiative to update its current
transportation safety action plan, adopted in 2021 and funded by the Illinois Department of
Transportation (IDOT), aimed at reducing and eliminating serious and fatal tra􀆯ic crashes
throughout the Bloomington-Normal region. In addition to expanding the plan to include all
of McLean County, focus for this update will be directed toward vulnerable road users,
including pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, children, the elderly, persons with
disabilities, and underserved communities, as well as equity analysis and policy
assessment.

Background: The new initiative is funded in part by a Safety Streets and Roads for All
(SS4A) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, with financial contributions by
IDOT and local partners. By following the SS4A collaborative approach, which incorporates
data analysis and emphasizes stakeholder engagement and public outreach, the MCRPC
hopes to create a safer transportation environment for all users.

Public Survey: A public survey and interactive mapping tool were available to solicit
community member feedback. All feedback received helped inform the Go:Safe Action
Plan Update and its recommendations.

Outcome: The updated Go:Safe McLean County Action Plan will serve as a living blueprint
to understand transportation safety needs, identify roadway safety projects, and help
inform funding priorities. The MCRPC looks forward to working together to create a safer
transportation environment for all McLean County residents and visitors.

Go:Safe McLean County Action Plan 2021

MCRPC considered and unanimously adopted the Action Plan at their April 7, 2021 commission meeting.   The Adopted Plan with Appendixes A & B are availiable below.

Drafted by Bloomington-Normal transportation system users, experts, and designers who volunteered their time, attention, and experience to envision the safe transportation system our community deserves, this is the Go:Safe Action Plan.

The Go:Safe Action Plan intends to:

  • Unite leaders across the McLean County transportation system with a shared framework and language for prioritizing safety.

  • Empower citizens of the Bloomington-Normal urbanized area to participate in the transportation system as user-owners.

  • Bolster competitive applications for public funding opportunities.

  • Eliminate fatalities and life-changing injuries from our transportation system by 2030
