The Magic Stump - A Documentary about raptors in Central IL

March 7, 2023 @ 7PM

Join us for a FREE screening of “The Magic Stump” on Tuesday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. at the Normal Theater (209 W. North Street). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Free parking is available on the street and in the nearby parking decks (free after 6 p.m.).

This Turnstone film tells the story of an Illinois tree stump that's attracted a phenomenal variety of wintering raptors through the years, including two rare Prairie Falcons. The goal of "The Magic Stump" is to draw attention to the story of raptors that winter in our highly altered agricultural landscape. The plan is for this film to be the first in "The Prairie State" series that will feature the landscape that once dominated Illinois. The film is directed by Bob Dolgan and edited by Sharon Filipkowski. Videography is by Mitchell Fransen and Mitchell Wenkus, and original music is by Empidonax. You may recall the excellent Bob Dolgan film that we showed in 2022 – “Monty and Rose”!

We will also have fun door prizes and will let you know all about the exciting JWP Audubon events coming up this spring. This is a family-friendly event, so people of all ages are welcome!
