Vasudha Gadhiraju, AICP
Vasudha Pinnamaraju Gadhiraju, AICP is the executive director for McLean County Regional Planning Commission. In this role since 2013, she oversees the transportation and land use planning programs in Bloomington-Normal and the McLean County Region and represents MCRPC before a variety of government, business, and stakeholder organizations across the region and nation.
Under her leadership, MCRPC completed Bring It On Bloomington, and PlanIt Normal- both award winning comprehensive plans. These 18- to 24-month planning processes were the first of their kind in the area to engage a broad range of stakeholders in the process and openly discuss issues such as education, health, environment, placemaking, smart cities and their impacts on the neighborhoods and community. Gadhiraju believes that plans created with the community are much more meaningful than those created for them.
Prior to joining MCRPC, Gadhiraju worked for City of Decatur for eight years. She led and actively participated in several planning and redevelopment projects, including Downtown Decatur redevelopment and streetscape project, creation and administration of Tax Increment Finance (TIF) districts, and Sustainable Decatur initiative, along with administering Energy Efficiency Block Grants funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Gadhiraju has also practiced as an architect in India. She holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Andhra University, India, and a master’s in community and regional planning with a minor in transportation planning and GIS from Iowa State University, Iowa. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and also serves on the diversity committee of Illinois chapter of American Planning Association (ILAPA).
